Restorative Movement

Rest is our birthright. We are constantly expending energy just trying to keep up with the pace of today’s world. That speed of the outside world often reflects how things feel inside us too. Capitalist systems are relentlessly making us feel that we need to 'earn our place' in this world - as if without our employment letter and productivity as proof, we aren't deserving of rest or joy at all. That is a lie. Many of us feel overwhelmed more easily these days, and yet feel guilty taking the rest our bodies are clearly craving. When we aren't well rested, it becomes difficult to access our thinking brains and make choices that truly take our whole selves into account. We get stuck in survival mode - just trying to "make it through" - instead of being able to see the bigger picture. I invite you to slow down with me through a blend of restorative somatic and movement-based practices, designed to help you unwind, regulate your nervous system, and give your body and mind a chance to rest deeply.

hills covered wit fogs

"I wish you rest today. I wish you a deep knowing that exhaustion is not a normal way of living. You are enough. You can rest. You must resist anything that doesn’t centre your divinity as a human being. You are worthy of care."

"Stay here for a while. Stay in the space knowing that you are not a failure, inadequate or unworthy because you are tired and want to rest."

- Tricia Hersey, in Rest Is Resistance

When our nervous systems are overwhelmed with sensory stimuli and information about the world around us, it's impossible to expect us to show up as our best selves, even for the things we care most about. If we want to thrive and support our loved ones in ways that are healthy and sustainable, we have to find ways to rest and replenish. This is a space to put your (literal and metaphorical) bags down, pause, release pent up tension or stress in your body, and learn how to relax and give your body the space to recover well. Here, you’ll learn tools to keep pouring back into your cup - especially in the moments when you feel drained from constantly giving outward. While I will be guiding you through the session and somatic routine, I will always encourage you to listen first and foremost to your own body to find the pace, adjustments, or variations that feel uniquely good to you. Consider all prompts I offer as invitations rather than instructions. We'll engage in a combination of movement and stillness routines like:

  • Mindful awareness exercises focusing on your body's internal cues

  • Guided breath-work

  • Slow, intentional movements with synchronised breathing

  • Simple and gentle range-of-motion stretches

  • Long-held restorative and fully supported poses (using props like a rolled blanket, pillow, bolsters, or yoga blocks)

I believe that it’s only when we feel truly rested that we can show up as our full, authentic selves and thrive with access to all the resources already within us.
